When it comes to the principles of writing I believe choosing a design and holding onto it is what I need to work on. This is because when I pick what to talk about and create my outline, my mind starts to wander about other things I could also write about.  I always have to read my essay over and over again to make sure I stuck to the main point I was trying to get across. I think my strongest point would be omitting useless words. I try to look my sentence over and if a word or two can be taken out, I delete it.
